REPTILE SENSORY CLASS

The reptile sensory class was definitely “outside the box”! We had a great turn-out. The babies were able to touch and observe the reptiles. Most of them, never having seen such an animal, were amazed and mesmerized by the animal and its movements. Not one baby seemed to fear the animals. However, many of the parents were facing their fears just by showing up! Kudos to those parents who came, interacted, and allowed their baby to participate in this experience.

Our professional animal handler introduced the babies to a gecko, a skink, frogs, a millipede, two python snakes (one VERY large one!), a tarantula, and two animals I can only describe as “dragon/dinosaur” looking creatures! They were actually a Black Throat Mointor Varanus Albigularis and a Mali Uromastyx. The value of this exercise was tactile sensory stimulation and the ability to create an “experience” to be archived in the babies brains. New sights, sounds, smells and touch experiences all stimulate the brain.

Reptiles were provided and handled by our friend Brett Wilson, aka: “Lizard Boy”. He can be contacted on his website here: www.lizardboyzoo.com.
